The LEGO Movie

The only way to enjoy "The LEGO Movie" is stoned (as directors Phil Lord and Christopher Miller none-too-subtly suggest).

Sober, it's wearying - exhausting, actually (I nodded off twice, apparently as a defense mechanism). It's the story of a construction worker LEGO figurine named Emmett (Chris Pratt), pegged as The Special by the sage Vitruvius (Morgan Freeman), who with hottie Wyldstyle (Elizabeth Banks) and her soon-to-be-dumped BF Batman (Will Arnett) battles President Business (Will Ferrell) and his forces of conformity, led by Good Cop/Bad Cop (Liam Neeson). There's one memorable song (actually, one memorable line from a song) and I did like the surprise ending that gives clever meaning to what's come before. But I didn't laugh once; the social satire is toothless and inane; and the assault of plot and dialogue seems never to end.
